Den Rauhnächten werden eine große spirituelle Energie und Kraft zugesprochen.

Traditionally, the Rauchnächte, or the "12 Nights," as they are also known, are considered particularly sacred. In European customs, they have a long history and are honored to this day—mostly in the form of incense. Although the exact time frame is interpreted differently, it usually refers to the nights from December 24th to January 6th. So, the time around Christmas and New Year. The Rauhnächte are attributed with great spiritual energy and power. It is also believed that the threshold to the "other world" is particularly thin.

The aura surrounding these sacred nights was not only used to, for example, remember ancestors, honor silence, or smoke out houses or stables, but many more customs have developed that utilize the magic of these nocturnal hours. You too can let this special magic work for you with mindfulness rituals during the Rauhnächte. Let go of the old with love, gratitude, and mindfulness, and begin the new in harmony with yourself. With Focus on your true desires or, as the saying goes, “your heart’s true desire.”

Are you traveling light?

We are good at letting ourselves get distracted and delaying certain tasks. Be it small projects around the house, accounting, unpacking boxes, or letting go of things we don't need. How are we supposed to feel the new in us if the old weighs us down in the same places? We can't be travelers with lightness in our hearts if there's an uneasy feeling growing inside.

Travel light – from the old to the new. This includes not only tangible things but also our habits and thoughts. As a preparation for the Rauhnächte, it is advisable to bring open matters to a close. Start with more mundane things, like returning borrowed items, and move forward. Perhaps there's an important conversation you should have now? A discussion, a reconciliation? Forgiveness makes you lighter.

Mindful preparation for celebrating the 12 nights

The days around Christmas are marked by stress for many, even though it should be the most contemplative time of the year. To already prepare yourself for the Rauhnächte, it's a good idea to create a kind of journal for them. In it, you can decide which ritual you want to perform on which day. This way, you are not only well-prepared, but you can also add to the journal like a kind of diary during the Rauhnächte. How did you feel about your ritual? What happened during the Rauhnächte, what did you dream? What thoughts occupied you? Writing down your feelings gives them substance and makes them “more tangible” – even for yourself.

Rauhnächte companion as a guide

You can prepare better with a Rauhnächte companion. Particularly lovingly compiled is the e-book by Coach Rini Pegka. The workbook guides you with affirmations, tips, and guides through this magical time. The questions posed to you in it support introspection, inspire reflection, and are beautiful exercises in mindfulness at the same time. Important topics like self-love, letting go, or personal goals and, of course, many more are brought into your view. The guide serves as inspiration and does not need to be followed word for word. It is like a guiding beam of light on your spiritual journey through the Rauhnächte.

What mindfulness rituals can you do?

It is important that the rituals during these nights are harmonious for you. Whether it’s short meditation sessions, thought exercises, or affirmations. You can create any ritual in the soothing glow of a candle or with a burning incense stick to make it something special. It's not just a backdrop. Scents make you more receptive, they directly address your senses, and the glow of a candle gives you focus. The flame supports you in arriving in the here and now.

For this reason, fire rituals outdoors with a fire bowl in the circle of your loved ones are also a nice way to welcome the Rauhnächte. In shared silence, you can cast a kind of review of the year and, for example, ask each other the following questions:

  • What were the best moments this year?

  • What have I achieved for my soul’s growth?

  • What am I especially grateful for?

  • In what situation did I act against myself?

Do not forget that we as humans are creative beings. Our thoughts, expressions, and also wishes have enormous power. Be careful and mindful with your wishes. And looking forward to the new year, you can formulate the following questions:

  • What do I definitely want to do differently next year?

  • What is my greatest wish?

  • Which person do I want to be?

  • What gives me energy? What drains my energy?

You can also use the fire to permanently let go of negative thoughts. You can write them down on a small piece of paper and give them to the fire.

The spiritual power of the Rauhnächte can support you in becoming one with nature and the universe—feeling more or feeling more authentically. Feel into this silence and cosmic force and recognize your true size and creative power. We wish you wonderful Rauhnächte.

Smoking during the Rauhnächte

The Rauhnächte and the smoking of houses and stalls is an old custom that was widely known and practiced, but is now increasingly being forgotten. Today, while people may no longer strictly try to ward off evil spirits, many still enjoy the relieving and purifying effect of smoking out the house.
