We all carry negative thoughts with us from time to time. If you find it particularly difficult to let go of a certain issue and make room for good feelings, meditation can be very helpful. By meditating, you learn to consciously accept that some things simply cannot be changed.
Why letting go is important
There are undoubtedly many reasons that call for final letting go. failed relationship, conflicts with oneself, feelings of guilt, situations from the past, the end of a certain phase of life or a death – it is human that all these things do not simply pass us by without a trace. That's exactly why it's also important to learn to let go.
What does letting go actually mean?
Most importantly: Letting go does not mean erasing all positive memories associated with it automatically. Letting go does not mean suppressing negative thoughts with full force, either.
Letting go simply means making room for something new and boosting your self-esteem. When you can let go, it gives you the beautiful certainty that you are enough for yourself and dependent on nothing and no one.
What happens if we don't let go?
Perhaps you ask yourself, why it is supposed to be so important to let go. Well: If you can't stop thinking about a person, a situation, etc., it burdens you.
Initially subconsciously, and eventually perhaps even in everyday life, which might lead to sleep disorders, panic attacks, depression, or fits of rage.
The longer you carry the oppressive thoughts with you, the more burdensome they become.
What helps in letting go?
Carefreeness, satisfaction, and the freedom to unfold, you can only achieve if you consciously leave your burdens in the past.
Letting go is nothing more than accepting that certain feelings are there or things have happened in the past that you can no longer change. When you let go, you no longer judge, but observe and acknowledge the conditions. You can reach this point with meditation.

Before Meditation
Before you start meditating, you should know that meditation is not an exercise that must follow a specific, set sequence. Actually, meditation is more the path away from all exercises: You ask yourself who you are when you are wholly yourself.
It is definitely not a compulsory exercise that must have a certain result. If you want to learn to let go through meditation, you should first become aware of what you actually want to let go. Is it a situation? A person? A behavior? A cycle of thoughts from which you cannot escape?
Now you know your focus and are ready for meditation. Find a comfortable position. Sitting, standing, or lying down – the choice is entirely up to you. The important thing is that your spine is erect and the environment is as quiet as possible .
How to let go with the help of meditation?
When meditating, you have several possibilities to try letting go. A major role is played by breathing: Take a deep breath and breathe out burdensome thoughts thoroughly. Perform this conscious breathing as long as you wish, and you will feel how you gradually let go. Keep your eyes closed, and recognize each individual emotion that flows through your mind and stomach.
You can also move on to repeating a mantra. This can be a single word, such as 'letting go', or a phrase: 'I am now ready to let go of everything that hinders me from following my authentic life's path.' Of course, any other mantra is equally welcome – because there is no template for the letting go meditation!
If you like, you can also try a visualization: Write down what burdens you and consciously let go of the piece of paper. You can burn it, crumple it, let it fall, wrap it around a stone and throw it into a river... The important thing is to consciously release what holds you back.
You can repeat this process as often as you like or extend the phases as it suits you. Even one meditation session can be helpful. But please be aware that meditation can only truly work if you return to it again and again.
How do you know that you are letting go correctly?
The beauty of letting go through meditation: There is no right or wrong. It's simply about accepting everything that happens. This also includes acceptance if, as a meditation beginner, you may not believe in yourself so much yet. That's okay, and why should you try to change it with force?
You can let go when you realize: There are no bad feelings. There are only suppressed emotions, which just make it worse. In meditation, you accept the conditions, as they are. This is exactly the key to letting go of everything that burdens you. It may all sound a bit abstract, but if you just give it a try, you will soon notice: You can learn to let go!
