The power of toxic habits

It's not easy to let go of old habits, like simply turning off your smartphone.
Humans are creatures of habit, and it's not so easy to let go of many of our habits. Not every habit is truly healthy for our body. Take, for example, the use of smartphones and other mobile devices. Be honest, how much time do you spend in front of a screen each day? Checking social media and emails first, texting friends, posting an Insta-story, reading news, etc. We are in constant communication and interaction with the world. On one side it's advantageous, on the other side it harms us because we've forgotten how to switch off. Do you find it easy to put your phone down for several hours? This is a question you should ask yourself because scientific studies prove: Too much digital interaction not only harms your skin and eyes, but especially your mind. You feel like you always need to be up to date, you constantly compare yourself to others, and you forget to give yourself and your loved ones valuable offline time. Think about it!
And then there's the topic of indulgences. It's hard to completely do without them, and you don't have to. But it is also important to find the right balance. You can find this out quite simply: whenever you're reaching for certain treats, think about whether the next few minutes will really be a pleasurable experience. Not really? Then let it go!
Ayurvedic detox at home
In European Ayurveda, it's about coming back into balance with yourself through different cures and programs, such as the Panchakarma cure, targeted yoga exercises, meditation, but also through targeted detoxification. In balance with yourself and with your body and mind. It helps to find out which of your doshas is imbalanced. Through a consultation our Ayurvedic doctors are happy to advise you. Do some yoga, read a book, or focus on something else that makes you feel good in that moment. You will notice how much these small breaks in the day are good for you and your inner balance.

Ginger is especially good for igniting Agni.
2.Drink plenty of water with ginger or lemon
It can be so simple, but it really works. Promise! For millennia ginger has been known for its healing properties. The knobby root ignites the digestive fire Agni and is therefore very helpful in physical detoxification. In other words: ginger heats you up properly! Try drinking ginger water throughout the day: just cut a few pieces of ginger and brew them with water, then let it steep. Just keep pouring yourself a glass. If ginger isn't for you, we can reassure you: in general, drinking water is very important to transport Ama, the residues of metabolic processes, out of your body.
In summer you can just add a lemon to the water instead of ginger. It's refreshing but also has a cleansing effect. It's best to drink a glass of lukewarm lemon water in the morning.
3.Eat consciously and calmly
Surely your grandmother has also told you: take your time while eating and chew well! In European Ayurveda, it's about the balance of your doshas. A very essential part is nutrition - the food and its preparation. The Ayurvedic diet is a cleansing cure for your body. Instead of stuffing yourself with food, balance and enough pause between meals are important. About two handfuls per meal are enough to provide the body with enough energy. Eat the main meal at midday when your digestive fire is particularly active. Try to eat at fixed times and not too late. Because your body needs the energy to digest the food.
Snacks are not actually intended in Ayurvedic nutrition. If hunger attacks become too great, rather reach for a glass of water, tea, nuts, or dried fruits.

If you go to sleep earlier, you will start the day more rested and relaxed.
To treat yourself to a little detox, we recommend you very consciously pay attention to certain sleep times so that your body and mind can regenerate during this time. Although everyone has their own sleep rhythm, in Ayurveda the day is divided into different dosha times. It is scientifically proven that sleep before midnight is the most important. From 10 p.m. the Pitta time begins. During this period, we mentally digest everything the day has brought us. Those who go to sleep at this time are usually more rested and relaxed the next day. Your sleeping environment should have as few artificial light sources as possible. Also try to avoid or reduce electromagnetic smog because it affects the quality of sleep. Including your phone.
You see, detox doesn't have that much to do with abstinence, but a lot to do with self-respect. If you just change a few of your habits, you will quickly notice how good that is for you, your body, mind, and soul. And, that you feel really good is the most important thing!
