European Ayurveda® tips for more lightness

This uncomfortable feeling of heaviness. We all know it all too well. Both physically and mentally, burdens take a toll on us. When we no longer feel comfortable in our own skin, are simply out of balance, and everything seems slow and sluggish. Whether it's unhealthy eating, too much stress, or a generally not very supportive lifestyle, at some point we have ignored our own voice. And as soon as we are unkind to ourselves, we will feel it in one way or another. The following 10 European Ayurveda® tips for more lightness can help you regain balance. It's a kind of checklist, where each individual tip is a brief overview that you can delve deeper into if you wish.
1. Boost metabolism
When our digestive system is not working well, is disturbed, or sluggish, we feel bloated, gain weight, and also accumulate toxins, which in turn affects health. For example, headaches are a common side effect of poor digestion. Therefore, the top rule is: Get your metabolism moving and ignite the digestive fire. A true metabolism booster is to drink warm water with the juice of a lemon on an empty stomach in the morning. It is also advisable to drink boiled water throughout the day.
Attention: You should avoid drinking about half an hour before and during meals. To further relieve the digestive system, regular meals are recommended. Additionally, you should have your last meal by 7:00 PM at the latest and use the time before bed for your relaxation.
2. Eat consciously and cook fresh
Speaking of food: in the long term, a conscious diet is crucial. In European Ayurveda®, we follow the Tridosha cuisine – naturally in combination with everything nature provides from our region. This includes local fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Seasonal and untreated organic foods – preferably freshly cooked – and homemade help the digestive system and do not burden the body with more toxins. Conscious eating already starts with the choice of meals, and if you cook according to your dosha, you will feel much more energetic, stronger, and generally better.
3. Plan detox days
Over time, we accumulate ballast and toxins that should be eliminated again. If you do not have the opportunity to do a detox cure, it is recommended to plan a few detox days at home in your own four walls. To not be distracted too much by other things, it is best to do this at a time when you are not working and can focus more on yourself. Again, it is important to do everything with awareness. Important during your detox days are also yoga and meditation sessions. Because detox also refers to your thoughts. A guide can help you proceed with a plan. A tip for this is the book "The 7-Day Panchakarma Home Cure" with TV star Andrea Kathrin Loewig, created in collaboration with European Ayurveda® experts, making it ideal for a comprehensive detox in your own four walls.

4. Digital detox
Have you ever noticed how much time you spend in front of a screen? Social media, television, or the internet in general, and perhaps also computer work on the job? We first need to be able to process all these sensory stimuli. For this reason, a digital detox is advisable. Too much of the digital world leads to distraction, distancing ourselves from ourselves, and being preoccupied with comparing ourselves to others. Be mindful of spending a little less time on the internet. Especially before going to bed, you should largely refrain from it. A mindfulness exercise or a short but delightful meditation session helps you process the day and give your mind the calm it needs for a good night's sleep.
5. Exercise in the fresh air
Of course, regular yoga exercises are very good for your movement. But being outdoors in the fresh air is irreplaceable! Nowhere can you ground yourself as well as in nature. A walk in the greenery should be possible daily. At least half an hour already helps you to activate your life energies. Consciously touch the plants, feel the tree trunks, and breathe in the air along with the scents of nature deeply. You can also combine going outside with forest bathing. This is a Japanese natural healing method that allows the healing powers of nature to affect you.

6. Regular mindfulness
Lightness does not come from unconsciously starting the day but by maintaining mindful behavior. This also includes how you treat yourself. Negative thoughts, too much self-criticism, and never a kind word to yourself impact your self-image. Pay attention to how you treat yourself and how you speak to yourself. If you are, for example, unkind to your reflection, continuously putting yourself down, then your environment will react the same way to you. Mindfulness is thought care – unpleasant thoughts bring you down. Positive ones give you the feeling of lightness.
7. Stress reduction
How we love this word – “stress.” At least we believe we are doing something right when we say we are stressed. Sounds better than admitting to doing nothing. How wrong this thought is! Stress is an energy killer, makes us older, irregular, unhealthy, unhappy. Stress causes wrinkles and gray hair, and way too early! A very important tip for more lightness, therefore, is to reduce stress. You are allowed and must allow yourself to do this. A wonderful countermeasure to stress is yoga. Working with breathing supports you in stopping the mental carousel and putting stress in check.
8. Strengthen resilience
It's quite normal that we have worries and fears. But we become weakened when they become overwhelming. As the saying goes, "Fear is a bad advisor." If we nurture our fears, we make ourselves vulnerable. Our perspective becomes narrowed, and we can't see a way out. Therefore, strengthening our resilience is incredibly important. Resilience means being able to stay grounded no matter what happens around you. It can be helpful to step out of worries and get an overview of the situation. Focus on what is good. And nourish this side of your life. Imagine that you are a rock instead of a leaf in the wind.

9. Lightness in your home
Our home is a reflection of our soul. To feel a little more lightness in your life again, it may help to declutter your home. Free yourself from ballast – specifically meant in this case. We tend to accumulate things we no longer need. Detaching from these feels truly liberating. Nowadays, there are so many ways to pass on clothes, books, or even furniture so that others can continue to love them.
10. Joy of Life
Probably the most important tip for more ease in your life is joy of life. If you feel burdened, it is now important to do exactly the things that do you good right now. Surround yourself with people who give you strength and spend your time on things that bring a smile to your face. Maybe a trip into nature, a weekend in another city, or simply leisure activities that you enjoy.
