Chakras: The Meaning of Chakras

Only when our chakras are free can energy flow unbound through the body, and we are happy and content. After physical or mental stress, the chakras can sometimes be blocked and need to be cleansed to regain our inner balance. But what exactly are chakras? How can they be activated and opened, and what about the colors? You can learn all about this here.
What are Chakras?
The chakras are the energy centers of our body. They serve as a connection between the physical and subtle body and have the task of supplying us with life energy. There are a total of seven chakras, which are vertically aligned along the spine and are each responsible for a specific area. Each of these centers should be constantly moving and rotating so that energy can flow well.
In a way, the chakras are a mirror of our consciousness. When we feel balanced and happy, all the energy centers are open and working precisely as they should. In cases of fears or disturbances, blockages can occur and the chakras contract. The energy can no longer flow freely as a result. Consequently, we feel uneasy and not centered. Through cleansing methods, these blockages can be resolved and new strength can be drawn.
This is how chakra colors are derived
Colors are an important component of chakra work. Through their various rotational movements and frequencies, a specific color is assigned to each chakra. If you want to support a specific chakra, it can help, for example, to consciously surround yourself with the respective color.
This can happen by wearing colorful clothing, visualizing during meditation, or by observing the respective colors in nature. But even small accessories in the respective chakra colors can already support the chakra in its work. Try it out once!
The Meaning of the Seven Chakras & How to Open the Chakras
All seven main chakras have their own significance and fulfill a specific function. If you notice disturbances in body and mind, it may be that a particular chakra is blocked. In this case, it can help to stimulate the chakra through targeted measures, to improve the energy flow again.
Here we now show you these individual energy centers from bottom to top. You will learn which center has which chakra color, what it is responsible for, and what can be done to open the respective chakra. Get ready for new vitality!
1. Root Chakra
This chakra is also called the base chakra and is our connection to all earthly things. Accordingly, it stands for grounding, security, and stability. It is located in the pelvic floor and is associated with the color red .
Blockages of the Root Chakra: Disorders of the root chakra are mainly expressed through lethargy, insecurity, or restlessness. Problems with the intestines or weight can also occur.
How to activate it: Conscious physical activities, such as movement or dance, stimulate this chakra and provide more stability in life. Nutritionally, nuts, potatoes, and legumes can ground you. When the root chakra is opened, it radiates again with new vitality, self-confidence, and assertiveness.
2. Sacral Chakra
This chakra is located about a hand's breadth below the navel and is the center for joy of life, sexuality, and emotions. It brings creative energy and enthusiasm for pleasures and has the color orange.
A blocked Sacral Chakra: If the chakra is not free, we notice this by a reduced libido and tension in the back or muscles. We also increasingly feel negative emotions such as anger, sadness, or jealousy.
Cleansing the Sacral Chakra: If the chakra is blocked, it must be brought back into flow, and water helps with this. Flowing movements like swimming or drinking water or herbal teas support the cleansing of this chakra. Painting and other creative activities can also help. Afterward, we feel joy in life again and a better sense of self-worth.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra
Also known as the navel chakra, this chakra is the seat of our personality and self-responsibility. It is responsible for our willpower, intellect, and assertiveness. It is located about at the level of the stomach directly above the solar plexus and has the color yellow.
Disorders in the Solar Plexus Chakra: A blockage of this chakra is manifested by restlessness, compulsive control, and materialism. Physical effects can also include overweight, stomach pain, or lack of strength.
How to open the Navel Chakra: The chakra can be supported with sunbaths, deep abdominal breathing, and scents like lavender and chamomile. But whole-grain products like rice, bread, or potatoes and spices like chili, ginger, or cinnamon are also invigorating. This makes you feel calmer, stronger-willed, and experienced inner harmony.
4. Heart Chakra
Located directly above the heart, the heart chakra is the center for love. This refers not only to romantic love but also to warmth, joy of the heart, and compassion towards all people. The color of this chakra is light green.
When the Heart Chakra closes: If doubts, emotional coldness, vulnerability, and fear increase, it may be a disturbance of the heart chakra. Skin, the heart, lungs, and the circulatory system may also be affected.
Stimulating this Chakra: Consciously engaging with our inner self can stimulate the chakra, as can herbal or aromatherapy. Green vegetables like spinach, peas, cucumbers, or lettuce are good, as are lemon balm and thyme. When the chakra flows again, we become more warm-hearted, helpful, and optimistic.
5. Throat Chakra
The throat or larynx chakra stands for communication, clarity, and individuality. It aids in self-confidence and in our personal expression. Its location is directly at the larynx and it is associated with the color light blue .
A blocked Throat Chakra: With a blocked throat chakra, it feels like our throat is constricting, we become closed off and inhibited in communication. Inflammations in the throat and pharynx and problems with the thyroid can result. We stop listening to our inner voice and have difficulty expressing ourselves.
How to open the Throat Chakra: Consuming fruits, honey, fruit juices, or flaxseeds can stimulate the chakra. Also, spending time by a blue lake and singing, writing, and listening to music can help. Afterwards, expressiveness improves and we go through the day with more self-determination.
6. Brow Chakra
The brow chakra is located between the eyebrows, also called the third eye. It is associated with the color dark blue or violet and is considered the seat of intuition, intellect, and inner wisdom.
A dense brow chakra: If the brow chakra is blocked, mood swings or a loss of reality can occur. One becomes more worried and is plagued by stress and nightmares. Migraines or headaches also indicate a disturbed brow chakra.
How to cleanse the brow chakra: When the chakra is activated, a keen mind, high awareness, and strong intuitive abilities emerge. To achieve this, teas or juices should be consumed, but mental work is much more important for this chakra. A dream journal and mindfulness meditations can help to return to the here and now.
7. Crown Chakra
The seventh chakra is the crown chakra or coronal chakra and is located a few centimeters above the crown of the head. It is the center of spirituality, freedom, and inner peace. The chakra is often represented as white, transparent, or violet.
A closed crown chakra: A block in the crown chakra often accompanies a life crisis. We feel aimless, insecure, and have sleep problems. A general world-weariness or states of exhaustion can also occur.
Open this chakra: The chakra can be stimulated through incense, fasting, or spending time in nature. Conscious appreciation of oneself and other living beings also helps. When the energy flows properly again, one is in harmony with oneself and the world and experiences a deep inner peace.
Chakra meditation to open the chakras
You see: by wearing a certain color or other targeted measures, the individual centers can be stimulated. However, a particularly deep cleansing of body and soul can be experienced with a holistic chakra meditation. In this process, all the chakras are activated in succession and the life energy starts to get moving again.
Here's how it works:
Sit upright with a straight spine. It's important that you are as relaxed as possible and not tense. Take a deep breath and gently send your breath from the root chakra upwards step by step through all the energy centers. Linger at each chakra for a while and visualize its color.
Now ask yourself the following questions:
What sensations can I feel?
Do I notice any tensions?
What is this chakra telling me?
If you feel tension in the chakra, try to let it go. Feel how with each inhale, new, fresh energy flows into the chakra, while with each exhale, tensions are released. Once you feel the chakra becoming freer, move to the next one, until your energy can flow freely through your body again.
In our chakra meditation you can find a detailed guide to work through all the chakras. By practicing this meditation regularly, you learn to pay attention to small changes in your body and mind and to better assign them. Through cleansing measures, your energy flows better again, you feel inner harmony and feel balanced.
