A cleansing or detox cure is very trendy. This goes hand in hand with the generally growing awareness of a healthy lifestyle. Such cures stimulate the digestive system, strengthen the immune system, and generally provide better well-being. Detox cures for home are particularly effective when carried out in designated facilities under the guidance or consultation of experts. As is the case at the European Ayurveda Resort Sonnhof. Here, each cure is tailored to your individual needs. However, a stay far from home is not always possible due to professional, financial, or family reasons. How to do a detox cure?

Take the time for your detox program consciously. A detoxification cure always requires your attention. It is not about eating little for a few days and getting through it as quickly as possible. On the contrary – you should engage with yourself, feel into your body, and detox mentally. Therefore, it is advisable to reserve a few days in advance and follow a plan. This provides structure and guidance. Try to have as few appointments as possible during this time and maintain a regulated daily routine. A home detox cure requires some time.

There should always be time for exercise in the fresh air. A long walk in the forest or park grounds you and gives you energy for the day. This way, your home detox cure also works in nature.

Tips for your detox morning

Your detox day should start at 6:00 AM. This gives you enough time and peace for your morning rituals. Additionally, at this time, the Vata-Dosha dominates, which provides your body with lightness and energy. A true metabolism booster right after getting up is to drink a glass of warm water with lemon or ginger. This stimulates the elimination of toxins from your body.

The next step is a self-massage with a massage oil. Through regular, circular movements, the metabolism is further stimulated. The massage allows the essences to penetrate deeply into the tissue, the skin is circulated, the tissue is cared for, and the metabolism is activated. The sensual engagement with your own body also supports you in maintaining a loving relationship with yourself.

Then take about ten to twenty minutes for a morning ritual. This can be a meditation, breathing exercise, or yoga session. With positive affirmations, you create clarity in your mind and tune into the day. I-am affirmations are particularly suitable for this, e.g.: I

  • … am valuable.

  • … am grateful.

  • … am creative.

  • … am free.

  • … am connected to the universe.

  • … am open to a new day.

Tips for detox cuisine from breakfast to dinner

During your detoxification cure, you should pay attention to regular meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. During your detox program, try to completely refrain from snacks. Coffee, alcohol, dairy products, and foods containing gluten should not be consumed during detoxification. Cook fresh and focus on high-quality, regional, and seasonal products. Concentrate fully on the meal while eating. Drink enough fluids throughout the day in the form of hot ginger water or various teas that promote the elimination of toxins.

Breakfast: Important for every home detox cure

It always depends on the individual type, but some can do well without breakfast. You shouldn’t force yourself to have breakfast, as the most important meal is lunch anyway. As a substitute, you might just drink a detox tea in the morning. Otherwise, it's recommended to have a light, warm breakfast like a porridge or mush.

Delicious millet porridge for your detox breakfast

You need these ingredients:

  • ¼ cup millet

  • ¾ cup almond drink

  • ½ pear (diced)

  • 1 tsp ghee

  • ½ tsp fresh ginger

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp cardamom

  • ¼ tsp turmeric

  • Raisins in desired amount

  • Some lemon juice

  • Salt

  • Honey

Preparation:

Heat the ghee in a small pot, peel and chop the ginger, and briefly roast it in the pot with all the spices. Add millet, raisins, and almond drink. Bring porridge to a boil and let it simmer until the desired consistency is reached. At the end, add the pear pieces and season to taste with lemon juice, salt, and honey if desired.

Detox cuisine at lunchtime

Lunch is the most important meal and should definitely be warm and freshly prepared. This is especially important during the detox cure. There are many delicious recipes that can make a home detox a culinary highlight. You can find recipe ideas in our Sonnhof cookbook. A simple and delicious recipe is, for example:

Spicy carrot-fennel pan

You need the following ingredients:

  • 1 tsp ghee

  • ½ tsp fresh ginger

  • ½ tsp coriander

  • ¼ tsp cumin

  • ¼ tsp fennel seeds

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • 2 carrots

  • ½ fennel bulb

  • Salt

  • Some lemon juice

  • Raisins to taste

  • Fennel greens

Preparation:

Heat the ghee in a pot, peel and chop the ginger, and briefly roast it in the pot with all the spices. Then peel the carrots and chop them together with the fennel. Add the vegetables to the pot and sauté everything. Deglaze with about 4 tablespoons of water, bring to a boil, and cover to simmer on medium heat for about 10 minutes. Finally, season with salt and lemon juice and decorate with raisins and chopped fennel greens.

Tip

Can also be served with basmati rice or millet.

Detox cuisine in the evening

In the evening, you are already tuning into relaxation. This also includes burdening your digestion as little as possible. Soups or roasted vegetables with spices that stimulate digestion are very suitable for an evening meal.

Creamy vegetable soup

You need the following ingredients:

  • 1 tsp ghee

  • ¾ ginger

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp turmeric

  • ¼ tsp fennel seeds

  • ½ tsp coriander

  • ½ medium-sized zucchini

  • ¼ medium-sized sweet potato

  • 1 cup water

  • Salt

  • Black pepper

  • Some lemon juice and fresh herbs

Preparation:

In a pot, heat the ghee and roast the peeled, finely chopped ginger together with the spices. Cut the zucchini and sweet potato into small pieces and briefly sauté them in it. Deglaze with water and let simmer covered for about 10 minutes over medium heat. Then puree the soup and season with salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Garnish with herbs as desired.

Evening ritual for your home detox

A good night's sleep is more than important for your regeneration and your balance. So that you can start again at 6:00 a.m., you should go to bed by 10:00 p.m. at the latest. With some time after dinner, you can plan a breathing exercise or a fine yoga session, just like in the morning.

Mindfulness meditations are also good for reflecting on the day and thanking yourself. For everything you have accomplished today. To nourish your mind without creating too much restlessness, it's better to leave out the TV and the internet.
