Menschen, die vom ayurvedischen Dosha Kapha geprägt sind, sind stark, ruhig und statisch.

Everything always has to be done quickly and efficiently, preferably as soon as possible. Sometimes, those who do not get swept away by this hustle and bustle have already won. Calm, deliberate natures are often envied in our sometimes very stressful times. Ayurveda has a special term for this disposition: Kapha.

People influenced by the Ayurvedic Dosha 'Kapha' are strong, calm, and stable. But before we lose ourselves in details right from the start, let's take a step back and look at where this concept actually originates from and what role it plays in Ayurveda.

What do the Doshas mean in Ayurveda?

The term Dosha comes from Sanskrit and means something like 'fault' or 'imperfection'. These Doshas occur in every person in different constitutions that vary from person to person. If a person's inherent balance of the Doshas is disturbed, it leads to various illnesses and complaints.

The basic balance can be composed differently. Either one of the Doshas is more dominant than the others (with varying degrees of dominance), two Doshas are more pronounced or, in very rare cases, all three Doshas are equally strong. Those for whom this is the case are characterized by a unique balance.

The constitution of these 'fault potentials' characterizes people, provides information about what lifestyle and behavior someone exhibits and what diseases they are potentially prone to. Moreover, diet can be adjusted accordingly, as it plays a crucial role in the balance of the Doshas.

Characteristics of the Kapha Type

In terms of appearance, Kapha-influenced people are those who have a stable, heavy body build. They have thick, firm hair and strong joints. Even with moderate appetite, some tend towards being overweight. Smooth skin, round contours and expressive eyes quickly lead one to conclude this type.

Kapha is the principle of structure in Ayurveda and is characterized by the elements Earth and Water. Especially Earth stands for steadfastness, compactness, consistency, and security. Further linked to this are attributes such as slowness, security, contentment, and tolerance.

Kapha types are not easily thrown off balance. With a strong immune system, they are less susceptible to illnesses, however, a potential tendency towards obesity subsequently leads to associated complaints, such as diabetes, but also lung, bronchial, or sinus diseases.

It is well known that body and mind are connected; so too are the physical and mental strength of Kapha types. They are stable, balanced personalities, who act thoughtfully and calmly and appreciate a consistent lifestyle. They can manage money well and, through their deliberation and planning and organizational skills , make good businesspeople.

They work patiently and persistently, though perhaps a bit slowly, and enjoy tinkering. A certain routine is not boring for them but pleasant. And – who would have thought – they are true connoisseurs, in eating and sleeping.

In social relationships, they are reliable and loyal, thus having stable, profound friendships. They are not quarrelsome, but also do not forget disappointments quickly and are slow to change their opinions. They have the least inclination towards mental disorders among all three types.

If their balance is disrupted, it has a slowing effect on their digestion, they develop a tendency towards greed, envy, possessiveness, and lethargy. One might also call them phlegmatic, especially since imbalance can lead to mucus in the head and chest area.

Kapha-influenced individuals love water, the sun, warmth, and everything colorful.

What is best to eat in case of Kapha imbalance

When the organism is too infused with steadiness and slowness, stimulating food counteracts it. This is the case with dry, light, hot, spicy, and bitter tastes and foods.

Since the Kapha digestion takes its time, it is recommended to eat two, at most three meals a day. It is advisable to avoid snacking and eating early in the morning or late in the evening. To give digestion some downtime and Kapha some rest, fasting days are gladly undertaken.

To reduce the Kapha level, the following foods should be avoided: sweet, sour, heavy, oily, salty, or cold foods (especially in the morning and spring), fried foods, cheese, milk, generally animal proteins, raw food (if so, then at noon or in summer). With spices like chili, pepper, ginger, turmeric, and astringent herbs,

the Kapha potential is counteracted. Additionally, tissue-building and light foods help, such as mung beans, barley, millet, leafy greens, artichokes, and honey. Ideal lifestyle for Kapha balance

Kapha types want to strengthen their

dynamism and energy , so as not to see their stable calmness fall into lethargy or even laziness. Achieving this involves movement, physical and mental activity . Anew challenging hobby and active leisure activities reduce your tendency towards high Kapha potential. But also allow yourself the time to pursue your

desire for rest, security, and comfort and retreat as you like. This is a good Kapha way of stress compensation, although excessive eating is often relied on. Find another way; physical activity is particularly suitable.Learn to consciously advocate for your

interests and to not settle for mediocrity . Practiceactivity, self-discipline, and willpower . You may be able to benefit from your organizational talent and proactively undertake tasks and set goals. Here you can find out everything about the Kapha type in Ayurveda. ✓ Appearance & lifestyle ✓ Dietary tips for Kapha types ✓ Tips for everyday life ► Learn more
