Ayurveda in Everyday Life: Rituals for Daily Life

Dinacharya, the tradition of setting a daily routine, is one of the most important Ayurvedic practices to enhance health and overall well-being. Take a few minutes each day and consciously incorporate Ayurvedic rituals into your day. This way, you can be healthy and successful in everyday life and work with Ayurveda. Here are some tips to help you practice Ayurveda in everyday life!
Why Rituals Are Important
Rituals are important because they provide us with structure and clarity. Our body likes regular routines because they keep it healthy by helping to reduce stress. Ayurvedic rituals also calm our mind. They are moments of introspection and give us the confidence, that we are doing something good for ourselves.
Would you like to practice more Ayurveda in everyday life, but don't know how to start? Introducing a few Ayurvedic rituals is ideal for this! Soon, the practices will become routine and will have a permanent place in your daily life. This way, you can make your life step by step healthier and more positive.
Now we show you Ayurveda rituals for different times of the day and also those that you can apply at any time. This is how you can integrate Ayurveda into your daily life!
Morning: Start the Day Healthy with Ayurveda
Ayurvedic morning rituals help you start the day fit and vital. Hygiene and detoxification are the top priorities. But the mind also needs to get started in the morning and can be gently activated with yoga.
Oil Pulling and Tongue Scraping
Since toxins from the digestive tract accumulate in the oral cavity overnight, in Ayurveda, not only the teeth are cleaned but also the oral cavity. Therefore, oil pulling and tongue scraping are essential parts of the Ayurvedic morning routine.
For oil pulling, simply take one to two teaspoons of organic sesame oil, organic coconut oil, organic sunflower oil, or our European Ayurveda® oral care oil into your mouth – preferably right after getting up and before drinking anything. Swish the oil around in your mouth for 5–10 minutes. Afterward, you can spit the oil into a tissue to prevent the oil along with the toxins and bacteria from entering the water cycle. Simply throw the tissue in the trash.

In tongue scraping, you move with a tongue scraper from the root of the tongue to the tip in gentle scraping movements. This reduces metabolic waste and also promotes oral health. After oil pulling and tongue scraping, you're ready for brushing your teeth.
Warm Water
After cleaning your oral cavity, the next typical Ayurveda morning routine follows: Drink a glass of boiled water with lemon juice or ginger. It stimulates digestion and frees the body from toxins that have accumulated. Depending on your taste, you can also add a little honey. The water acts like a pleasant internal shower and is especially beneficial in the morning!
Morning Yoga
If you plan some time for yoga exercises right in the morning, you can collect yourself and start the day strengthened. We're not talking about an intense workout program. Quite the opposite! After a few gentle yoga exercises in the morning, you will approach your daily tasks more refreshed and relaxed, even if you only spend a few minutes on it. Try it!
Midday: Pause Consciously with Ayurveda in Everyday Life
Midday is the right time to recharge and prepare well for the rest of the day. During lunch break, the main focus is on: recharging energy!
Energy-Rich Meal
Plan your diet so that you have your main meal at midday. When the sun is at its highest, the digestive fire Agni is at its most active. Opt for an energy-rich meal, but don't overdo it with the portion. About two handfulls should suffice. Above all, don't gobble down your meal, instead chew and enjoy every bite consciously!

Light Walking
Exercise is important for health, as long as it is not too strenuous. Ayurveda especially recommends moderate exercise. A light walk during the lunch break stimulates circulation and provides new energy. The excursion outside doesn't have to take long! A few minutes alone or with a colleague are enough. If you feel like it, you can combine this with a calming walking meditation .
In Between: These Rituals Can Always Be Done!
Of course, you don't have to strictly adhere to certain times of day for all Ayurvedic rituals. There are also routines that you can perform occasionally in between to integrate Ayurveda into your daily life and make your day healthier.
Take a Break
Everyday life can often be quite demanding. Therefore, it is important that you pause briefly now and then. Take about a 30-60 minute break focused solely on yourself each day. It works best between 6 and 10 AM or between 6 and 10 PM, as the body is then in the regeneration phase.
Simply close your eyes, breathe deeply, and focus solely on yourself. Listen to yourself carefully and observe your stream of thoughts without judging them. Even a short escape from the daily routine does good and helps you regain your balance.
Drink Enough Water
In Ayurveda, it has long been known that drinking warm water has positive effects on digestion and fat burning. It's best to boil the water in an open pot on low flame for about 5–10 minutes. If you then pour the water into a thermos, you can drink from it throughout the day.
Consciously Avoid Snacking
One of the biggest differences between Western and Ayurvedic lifestyle philosophies is that Ayurveda advises against snacking . Focus on your main meals and try to avoid unnecessary food intake in between. If you feel the urge, consciously pause and just drink a glass of hot water instead.
Evening: unwind and relax
After a balanced day, it's important to be able to relax again in the evening. For this reason, the Ayurvedic rituals for the evening are primarily focused on relaxing the body and mind.
Drink Ayurveda milk in the evening
Treat yourself to a golden milk with this delicious ritual in the evening! The drink gets its color from turmeric and has an anti-inflammatory and detoxifying effect. Especially in the evening, the milk is also wonderfully calming.

For this, you can stir our Golden Calm Evening Milk with milk or a milk alternative. Alternatively, you can also prepare your golden milk yourself. You don't need many ingredients for this:
a cup of plant milk
one tablespoon (or more to taste) of turmeric paste
one tablespoon of coconut oil
a pinch of cinnamon
a teaspoon of honey
Heat the milk and stir in the turmeric paste. Then add coconut oil, cinnamon, and honey. Pour everything into a cup, stir regularly, and enjoy the golden milk!
Meditate to unwind
Meditating is a wonderful way to let go and simply shed disturbing thoughts. Thus, meditation forms a relaxing evening ritual that allows you to leave the turmoil of the day behind you. A few minutes of conscious meditation can be wonderfully cleansing! Which meditation technique you choose is of course entirely up to you! Just choose the method that feels good to you and relaxes you the best.
Calming end to the day
Adequate and healthy sleep is very important for your well-being. In the evening, it is therefore important to introduce rituals that relax you. Massage your feet with our Inner Calm Massage Oil or sesame oil or surround yourself with soothing scents like sandalwood, vanilla, or our Find Peace Aura Spray. Over time, the body will associate these scents with relaxation and will automatically become calmer when you perceive the smells.
To fall asleep faster, you should also limit your screen time. This means: don't answer emails in the evening and ideally put your phone away completely. Spend the evening hours with family and friends or read a good book, so your mind can relax.
Increase satisfaction and well-being in your life by incorporating a few Ayurvedic rituals into your daily routine. Once you get used to it, add more and soon Ayurveda will be an enrichment in your everyday life. Have fun trying it out!
