Ayurveda Massagen wirken positiv auf die Gesundheit und werden daher vor allem zur medizinischen Anwendung eingesetzt.

Ayurveda massages have a positive effect on health and are therefore primarily used for medical applications. Incidentally, there is also a feel-good effect. Depending on individual customization, an Ayurveda massage can be relaxing, invigorating, or strengthening – or all of these combined. Through treatment appropriate to the type, Ayurveda massages are good for a healthy body and mind. Here are all the important types at a glance.

The Wonderful Effects of Oil Massages

In traditional Indian healing practices, various types of Ayurveda massages are distinguished. They hold an important place in Ayurveda teachings. Incidentally, the oldest written evidence of this practice dates back over 3,500 years! Thus, the Ayurveda massage is one of the oldest massage techniques in existence.

Before the treatment, a type-appropriate coordination is very important – your Dosha type is determined so that a harmony of Vata, Kapha and Pitta can be achieved later. Based on this, the right massage for your individual issues is selected. No matter how differently they are performed – all have one thing in common: Ayurveda massages help you to live healthily.

These effects can also be expected from an Ayurveda massage:

  • Smooth, supple, and resilient skin

  • Strengthened tissue

  • Relaxed muscles

  • Improved sleep

  • Effects against exhaustion and stress

  • Lymph flow is increased, allowing detoxification to occur

  • Stimulating Agni (digestive fire) – also helps with cleansing

  • Rejuvenation effect – Ojas (life energy) is built up

  • Relaxation of body, mind, and soul

  • Positive impact on the psyche – endurance, concentration, strength, loving stability

  • Self-healing powers are activated – the entire organism is strengthened

Abhyanga: The Traditional Ayurveda Massage

When it comes to Ayurveda massages, Abhyanga should not be forgotten. As a full-body massage, it is the most widespread technique and means “massage with oil.” A lot of warm, fragrant oil mixed with herbal extracts is used. A high-quality therapeutic oil is used. No wonder Abhyanga is so popular! In India, it is also considered the massage of pure love – because it comes from an attitude of open-heartedness and thus reaches our soul. Attitude and devotion also play important roles.

Because the oil not only acts healing on the skin on the surface. It also penetrates deep into the tissue – there it has nourishing and balancing effects, allowing waste products and toxins to be dissolved and expelled. Essentially, the energy flow in the body is activated, and deep relaxation is achieved. Ayurveda teachings refer to this as the opening of the Srotas – the channels through which unwanted Ama is transported away – enabling holistic cleansing. This is precisely why Abhyanga is so health-promoting.

Synchron-Abhyanga

A special form of full-body massage is Synchron-Abhyanga. This is even more effective and pleasant, as here two therapists work synchronously from head to toe with herbal oils. The face and ears are also considered. The massage not only has a relaxing effect but also a strengthening and invigorating one.

Shirodhara: Forehead Oil Pouring

This special form of Ayurveda massage focuses mainly on the head and face. Here, warm oil is poured from 10 cm height in a fine stream over the forehead. Individually selected herbal oils are also used here.

Shirodhara is particularly beneficial for headaches, migraines, sleep disorders, high blood pressure, neuralgias, or even psychological imbalances.

The treatment brings mental and spiritual relaxation by stabilizing the entire nervous system. Shirodhara is also beneficial for concentration ability. The treatment is often performed in combination with a face and head massage.

Shiroabhyanga: Head Massage

One of the many other partial applications is Shiroabhyanga. In this application, the head and neck are massaged with oil. The stimulated circulation allows for the release of nervous tension. Interestingly, it can also promote hair growth.

Mukabhyanga: Face and Décolleté Massage

During this Ayurveda massage, the face is gently massaged with a nourishing and cleansing cream . In this way, the nerve structures of the face are optimally relaxed. The result is a natural, relaxed facial expression. This also results in a rejuvenated appearance. The skin becomes silky-soft through the Mukabhyanga treatment.

Padabhyanga: Foot Massage

Through the massage of the feet, energy blockages and tensions can be resolved . Additionally, tiredness and exhaustion are dispelled. The feet gain more stability, strength, and softness through Padabhyanga

. Even eyesight is said to improve with this application.

Upanhasveda: Back Massage This partial massage takes care of the back. It is strengthening and loosens the muscles from the hip to the crown

. It can also help with typical tensions such as a lumbago. The massage is also recommended for sciatic nerve complaints. The treatment is also very soothing for stress. In some cases, a Lepa application follows the massage. This is a paste made from herbs, plant juices, or oils. It is applied directly to the body and kept warm there.

Garshan: Dry Massage / Silk Glove Massage

When the traditional Garshan massage is applied, it is performed in a dry state with silk gloves. Here too, the whole body is massaged, but without the addition of oil.

By gently stimulating the connective tissue, the metabolism, and the circulation are stimulated. This way, waste products can be broken down faster and more easily . Additionally, Garshan helps prevent and reduce cellulite. The peeling effect is also wonderful.

Marma Massage: Vital Point Massage

This massage is a very intensive full body, as well as head and face massage. Here the so-called Marma points (vital points) are involved. In Ayurvedic teaching, they are the center of life – there are a total of 108 of them at various points in the body.

Through the Marma massage, exactly these vital points are massaged. This positively stimulates the internal organs.

The Marma treatment therefore has a relieving and revitalizing effect. It is said to have a positive influence, especially on tension, blockages, hardening, osteoarthritis, and even overweight.

Moreover, it is particularly beneficial for disturbances caused by an overstimulation of the nervous system. Nutrient supply and physical strength are also supported by the Marma massage. Additionally, there are many other positive effects.
