Meditations against the autumn blues


Even though the days are noticeably cooler, the month still gifts us with many beautiful sunny days. But do you sometimes feel that your heart feels heavy? Do you feel uncomfortable in your skin? It could very well be that you're feeling a bit of the autumn blues.
Why we become melancholic
Certainly, autumn, with its colorful forests and cooler temperatures, is a beautiful season. And even though it often warms the heart with many sunny days, weather caprices, cold and damp rainy days, and less sunlight can weigh on your mood. You're lacking motivation, often feeling listless, irritable, and internally restless.
In autumn, the Vata-Dosha is very active. The bioenergy of change is attributed to the elements of air and ether and is characterized by the properties of roughness, dryness, coolness, and mobility. When Vata is balanced, you feel it with lots of energy, creativity, and initiative. Just as our body, mind, and soul are influenced by the Doshas, nature is also exposed to these forces. The trees change color, temperatures drop, the weather is very changeable: the epitome of Vata!
Towards the end of autumn, we also feel the energies of Kapha: Wet, cool, stable, and heavy. The Kapha-Dosha inherently stands for stability and calm. When in excess, it can quickly lead to demotivation, resignation, and listlessness on a mental and emotional level. This is partly due to the lack of light. The shorter days and lack of sunlight affect our soul: We become depressed and literally feel the autumn blues.

Meditations for a stable Tridosha
To keep your mind and soul in harmony, meditations and mental exercises can help. They cleanse your bioenergies and help bring them back into balance.
A good initial meditation exercise is the sun meditation. Especially on dark days, your thoughts and chakras are flooded with light. You can literally feel your empty batteries being recharged.
Forest bathing in nature or a walking meditation are other ways to counteract melancholic thoughts.
Even simple meditations that clarify your thoughts can help you combat the autumn blues.
The following exercise is helpful for this:
Sit upright on a chair. Your back does not touch the backrest. Both feet touch the ground. If possible, be barefoot. Close your eyes. Touch your abdomen with the inner palms of your hands below the navel. This is where your solar plexus is located, a point from where energies radiate throughout your entire body.
Take a deep breath in. Ensure that you inhale the air deeply into your abdomen. Feel with your hands how your abdominal wall rises and then falls again. Try to breathe in and out slowly and evenly. Now imagine sitting in a sphere that protects you from all negative influences. This sphere consists of light and energy and is built around you like a protective cage. Only positive energies and moods can reach you and flow through your body.
Your body absorbs the energies. You see them flowing through your arms and legs and eventually reaching your head. You feel how blockages in your mindset dissolve in this light. Speak the following affirmations inwardly or out loud. They help reinforce your cleansed mindset:
"I feel the warmth inside me."
"Every day is full of options."
"I am full of energy and light."
"My health, my mind, and my soul are clear and strong."
Feel free to come up with more positive phrases that help you to cleanse your inner self. Open your eyes slowly again and return to your present moment.
