Bei Neurodermitis handelt es sich um eine entzündliche Hautkrankheit, die mit starkem Juckreiz verbunden ist.

Severe itching and inflamed skin areas: People with neurodermatitis know these symptoms all too well. The so-called atopic dermatitis is quite persistent, but can be alleviated very well and, above all, sustainably with Ayurvedic treatment methods. How this works and what Panchakarma cures actually are, you can find out here.

Healing neurodermatitis from within: Ayurveda for skin problems

Neurodermatitis is an inflammatory skin disease that is associated with severe itching . Sadly, scratching only worsens the condition. Neurodermatitis is also a chronic condition, which means it can recur repeatedly.

How does neurodermatitis develop?

Neurodermatitis appears in most affected individuals before the age of 5. To relieve the unpleasant symptoms as quickly as possible, products with cortisone are often used. However, this approach only treats the noticeable features – not the root of the problem.

The Ayurveda approach follows a completely different method: As a cause of neurodermatitis, an imbalance of the doshas Vata and Kapha is seen. More specifically, the nutrient fluid (Rasa Dhatu) and the blood (Rakta Dhatu) are out of balance.

When emotional stress is added to it, it creates the perfect conditions for the skin disease. Stress manifests in dry skin, while metabolism is disrupted by too much Ama. As a result, the body sees no other way but to indicate through skin irritation that it is overwhelmed.

How does Ayurveda help with neurodermatitis?

So what Ayurvedic measures are there to gently and effectively address this cry for help from the body ? Theoretically, it's quite simple: On the one hand, blood and digestion must be balanced again. On the other hand, relaxation techniques help to reduce stress. And this is ultimately considered a key trigger for neurodermatitis flare-ups.

Options for Ayurveda treatment of neurodermatitis

From an Ayurvedic perspective, the skin is a mirror of the harmony between body and mind. To restore this harmony in skin diseases (Kushtha), Ayurveda relies on gentle methods. From the diet to soothing teas to oil treatments: There are many ways to do something good for the body with natural remedies .

Ayurveda tips on diet for neurodermatitis

Neurodermatitis is a clear sign of stress. It is therefore all the more important for those affected to have a diet that reduces stress. Specifically, this means: Alcohol, sugar, wheat products, meat and fish, as well as all sour-tasting foods, but also fast food and spicy spices, greatly agitate the body. Acids are formed and the intestine is stressed.

If you have neurodermatitis, you should definitely avoid the aforementioned food groups. Instead, try to mainly eat light, warm dishes that are gently prepared . Bitter, fresh salads like dandelion or endive are ideally suited. Cooked legumes, (pseudo) grains like quinoa or oats, and digestive herbs are also beneficial.

To give your body enough rest, we also recommend spreading your meals evenly throughout the day. It is perfectly fine to have 4-6 hours between meals. This gives the body plenty of time to digest. And the easier it is for the digestive fire, the more relief it ultimately means for irritated skin.

Ayurveda tea against neurodermatitis

It is no secret that the body needs plenty of fluids throughout the day. With neurodermatitis, it can be helpful in this regard to drink 1-2 cups of tea made from special herbs every day. Such an Ayurveda tea is meant to flush toxins from the body and reduce inflammation. This can relieve itching and improve the skin appearance.

From an Ayurveda perspective, it is not very sensible to recommend a specific tea. Because which blend helps best depends on one's own symptoms . Generally suitable for the tea blend are, among others, St. John's wort, dandelion, burdock root, or even wild pansy.

However, in neurodermatitis therapy with herbal teas: listen to your body. The tea should have an eliminative effect, so you can get rid of toxins. However, this effect should not last longer than 1-2 days . If it does, it's better to refrain from continuing to drink the tea.

And how can you find out which tea helps you specifically? We would recommend that you get advice from an Ayurveda expert . This way, you can quickly find your ideal blend and don't have to try out several variants first.

Ayurveda oil against neurodermatitis

Oil plays a doubly important role in the Ayurvedic treatment of neurodermatitis. On the one hand, in your diet, it is important to focus on few but high-quality sources of fat in the form of oils that contain omega-3 fatty acids. Olive and coconut oil, for example, are a good choice.

On the other hand, various oils are used for external treatments of stressed skin . Evening primrose oil, neem oil, almond oil, and more: Valuable liquids like these are individually tailored to the skin and worked in with thorough massages .

This is not only relaxing and stress-reducing, it also provides the skin with nourishing substances. The oil treatment is most effective when it takes place as part of a specially tailored Ayurveda cure .

Panchakarma: Ayurveda cure for neurodermatitis

A Panchakarma cure is suitable for both adolescents and adults. It is a treatment that is designed for the long-term, consisting of various components. We will now look at what they are and what you can expect from Panchakarma.

What does Panchakarma mean?

The term Panchakarma is composed of "five" (pancha) and "actions" (karman). A Panchakarma cure is therefore often referred to as a fivefold cleansing cure . It combines external and internal treatments that are implemented over a longer period.

The important thing is that there is no the Panchakarma cure: Each therapy is tailored to the individual's problems. Because as Ayurveda teaches, every person is unique—regardless of whether it's about mind or body!

How does the Ayurveda treatment work?

A Panchakarma cure always begins with a thorough diagnosis, specifically in the form of an examination of pulse, skin, and sensory organs. The Ayurveda expert, among other things, feels the skin, checks the pulse, and closely examines the eyes, lips, and tongue.

Once the diagnosis is established, internal and external preparation for the elimination of toxins can begin. This happens in various ways: Taking herbal preparations to strengthen the immune system can be part of a Panchakarma treatment, as well as intestinal cleansing, nasal rinses or oil massages (Abhyanga).

Part of the Panchakarma cure is also a careful nutritional plan. Because for the elimination of toxins to have a lasting effect, it's naturally important to subsequently create better conditions.

This also means: The Panchakarma treatment of neurodermatitis is not a one-time matter, but rather a stimulus for relearning old habits. It might require some discipline to get used to a new diet and integrate relaxation techniques into everyday life. In the long run, however, it pays off to implement the newly acquired knowledge every day.

Because whether through a Panchakarma cure or "just" an adjustment of dietary habits, regular oil massages or similar Ayurvedic measures: By bringing your doshas back into balance , you are essentially caring for your skin from the inside, so that itching and inflammations finally disappear — for good!
