Portal days – harnessing the energy of the universe

Do you know that feeling? One day you wake up full of energy and in a good mood, and the next day you are suddenly completely exhausted and off track. The people around you also feel the same way. Of course, there are many reasons why your daily mood can be so different. But one of them is the cosmic energies – which on so-called portal days, in particular, can quite mix up our doshas.

What are portal days: the meaning among the Maya

Their origin lies in the Maya calendar. The South American people believed thousands of years ago that on these days cosmic energy vibrates higher than usual.

In their sacred ritual calendar “Tzolk’in,” they set 52 portal days, during which the portal to the cosmos is open, and particularly strong energies are noticeable on Earth.They are placed in the calendar in such a way that they form a pattern: two overlapping pyramids symbolizing the energies of heaven and earth.

However, this sacred calendar of the Maya comprised only 260 days per year. Astrologers have therefore transferred these days to our current calendar so that you can also benefit from the energy of portal days. The number and dates of these days can slightly vary each year. You can also use this knowledge in European Ayurveda® to your advantage.

Portal days: symptoms and effects on body and mind

What do portal days mean for you? The higher vibrations on portal days allow you to deal more with yourself and your surroundings. The effects of the energy manifest differently for each person.

In general, the energies of the universe help you to gain clarity again. You should either resolve blockages within yourself or tackle important and challenging projects with the newly gained energies. So listen closely to yourself, take a little time on the portal days, and then move forward with full force!

Possible negative effects of portal days:

  • You are highly emotional: either you feel very light or very heavy

  • Inner unrest, thought, and emotional chaos

  • You, as well as those around you, react more quickly irritated

  • Headaches, fatigue, and migraines impede the daily routine

  • Your circulation can react sensitively and be weaker than usual

  • You suffer from sleep disorders

Possible positive effects:

  • Creativity and solutions flow out of you on such days

  • Intense dreams shape your sleep

  • You feel you have more energy than usual

  • Your empathy is even sharper and more focused

  • You more quickly notice what you need for yourself


You see, portal days can trigger sadness or energy bursts and bring us emotionally off balance, but also hold a lot of potential for new things within them. Exactly this can be applied for yourself.

Using portal days: helpful rituals for energy-rich days

Portal days are the perfect opportunity to look inward and further develop yourself. To help you be more balanced on these days and utilize the energies optimally for yourself, we have here four tips and rituals for you.

1. Practice meditation and mindfulness

Do you feel drained and exhausted? Then body, mind, and soul are trying to tell you something is wrong. Especially on portal days, mindfulness and a compassionate handling of yourself, your thoughts, and your body are important. Maybe you feel the need to retreat more on these days.

Therefore, ensure you get enough sleep and take regular breaks. Even a short power nap can work wonders on these days. This way, you are physically and mentally prepared for the special energy boost.

Try to ground yourself - preferably immediately as a morning routine - with a meditation. This helps you slow down the carousel of thoughts and stay more with yourself. To cleanse your mind and space of negative energies, you can also smudge with sage .

To let the abundant energy flow, sufficient movement is important on these days. A walk in nature or a decelerating yoga session can also help you come down again.

2. Pay attention to proper nutrition

Proper Ayurvedic nutrition also helps you stay in shape. Enjoy rather light and energy-providing foods on portal days, such as a delicious Ayurvedic breakfast with porridge in the morning. You should preferably avoid hard-to-digest foods, like mushrooms, for example.

3. Achieve balance with an Ayurveda cure

In the universe, everything is permeated by the three bioenergies: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. In European Ayurveda®, too, the three bioenergies are essential, and various areas like nutrition and daily rhythm as well as the cures at the European Ayurveda Resort Sonnhof are aligned according to them.

You cannot simply measure the exact vibration of these three doshas, but we assume that their effect manifests differently on us and our environment. In European Ayurveda®, we therefore try to maintain a balanced relationship between the three bioenergies.

4. Harness increased manifestation power

Since on portal days the energetic vibrations are particularly strong, manifestations have a higher chance of becoming reality. You can use this for yourself! Write down your goals and wishes – for example in a journal or diary – and visualize them intensely. For this, you can also use pictures and create a vision board.

It is important that you formulate your intentions clearly and precisely Imagine exactly what you want to achieve and envision your wishes coming true. Then let go of the thoughts and feel within yourself. This is how you can lay the foundation for a successful and happy future.

The Portal Days do not follow a regular cycle. However, their dates can be calculated based on the Maya calendar. In the year 2025, Portal Days occur on the following days:
